If the swan symbolizes above all, long, love and purity (due to its graceful appearance and immaculate white plumage), his image was also during the periods, other meanings.
In the ancient times it was linked to music, because it
believed that, when he was about to die, emitting a swan song for both sweet and poignant (although it was previously denied at the time). For this reason, the swan was devoted to the cult of Apollo and that of the Muses (Erato In particular, who presides over music, as well as to love poetry and erotic).
In Greek mythology, Zeus seduced Leda, a Greek princess, taking the appearance of a swan.
In the medieval period, the swan was sometimes represented in some bullfighters, in a negative light because, unlike its feathers are white, its flesh is dark, almost black. That is why it was a symbol of hypocrisy. But AA also an attribute of the allegorical figure of the Good Omen (the Scriptures), where the presence of swans was interpreted as a good omen.
In the Renaissance, his white evoked the light of day and the sun, and s' as opposed to the black of the raven, symbol of the night. That is why the chariot of Apollo was represented drawn by swans. The bird was also among the attributes of Venus, goddess of beauty and of love. Again, the animal pulled the chariot of the goddess and those who accompanied 's addicted to the pleasures of love.
