Saturne (de son nom grec Cronos) est, selon les écrits de la mythologie, l' un des premiers dieux apparus après la création du monde. Il est le fils d' Ouranos (le Ciel) et de Gaïa (la Terre).
De son union avec Cybèle, il aura plusieurs dieux et déesses: Cérès (Déméter, déesse de la terre et de l' agriculture), Junon (Héra, protectrice des femmes et du mariage), Pluton (Hadès, dieu des enfers), Neptune (Poséïdon, dieu de la mer), de Jupiter (Zeus, souverain des dieux) et Vesta (déesse du foyer familial).
À l' origine vénéré comme dieu de l' agriculture, il deviendra, par la suite, le dieu du temps.
Une prophétie annonça un jour à Saturne qu' il serait détrôné par un de ses fils comme souverain des dieux. Pour éviter cela, il dévore un à un chacun d' eux. Cybèle parvient à lui cacher la naissance du dernier, Jupiter, qui, après un périlleux combat, parviendra à vaincre son père et à prendre sa place.

Cette oeuvre a aussi, pour inspiration, le célèbre tableau "Le Cri" d' Edvard Munch.

Saturn (his Greek name Cronos) is, the writings of mythology, the gods of the first one appeared after the creation of the world. He is the son of Ouranos (Heaven) and Gaia (Earth).
From his union with Cybele, there will be many gods and goddesses Ceres (Demeter, goddess of earth and agriculture), Juno (Hera, protectress of women and marriage), Pluto (Hades, god of the underworld), Neptune (Poseidon, god of the sea), Jupiter (Zeus, king of gods) and Vesta (goddess of the home).
At the origin revered as the god of agriculture, it will, thereafter, the god of time.
A prophecy told one day at Saturn that he would be dethroned by his son as ruler of the gods. To avoid this, he swallows one to every one of them. Cybele manages to conceal the birth of the last, Jupiter, who, after a perilous fight, managed to defeat his father and take his place.
